League-Wide Wild Card Format Example 2
Here is another example playoff year with this format, but this time, with Vegas added:
Now, with a Division of 9 teams, the number of automatic playoff spots has changed: the Pacific now has 4, with an additional possible Wild Card spot (not 2), while the others are the same as before. This creates a range of 4-5/9, in line with the other Divisions’ :
So, there are now 12 automatic playoff spots, meaning only 4 Wild Cards.
The crossover results in several unfair matchups (#10 vs. #13, #5 vs. #9, #8 vs. #14)
With Edmonton winning the crossover matchup, the same scenario occurs again, but Edmonton draws a Division rival and San Jose crosses over instead. The Central matchup once again is unfair compared to the Metro matchup:
With one team from each Division now remaining, the third round pairs the teams within their Conference against each other.
